Free PC Access

I can't believe I almost forgot about this one!  And since I have it in my mind and the ham is now in the oven giving me nothing much to do in the meantime.  I was in the hospital waiting room, as I mentioned last night, and decided to use the free PC's to check my Google+ account.  I ran into a couple of problems that have really got me annoyed.

Let's start off with the first problem I ran into.  I opened up Internet Explorer, it was either that or Firefox and that was first on the screen, and typed google+ into the search bar, then finally selected the link to go to the page.  To my surprise it told me that the browser was out of date and not supported.  I can't remember for sure but I believe it was IE7 though it may have been 8.  I figured I couldn't do anything about it so I closed it and opened Firefox figuring it would be much more up to date.  I was in for another shock as I received the same message.  Looking at the version showed that it was version 3.  It has been a long time since I have paid attention to Firefox so I had to look it up to see what the current version was and was really surprised when I saw that it is currently on 11.  So rather than update it I decided to see if I could install Chrome as that is my preferred browser.  To my further surprise I was able to download and install it.  So you guessed it, I was able to get to Google+, or was I?

Now that I had an updated and supported browser to use I was all set to log in and get up to date (it is easier than using the phone).  I typed in my user ID and password then pressed enter.  With the rest of this you need to keep in mind a couple of things: first, my sister in-law was on Facebook for a while; I connected my phone to their wireless and was using my Google+ app.  What came up next really threw me for a loop and sent me off the deep end.  A window popped up and said that Google+ was blocked.  What was the reason it was blocked you ask?  Pornography!  I couldn't believe it.  Not that I have really looked but I haven't found any porn on Google+ (though I may look now).  I cleared the browser history to make sure everything was removed and walked away really annoyed!

This brings us to a larger problem that I have come across with regards to the blocking software that is used.  At my previous employer they prevented Android phones from connecting to the Market (now Google Play Store) but the IT Department had free access to the iTunes store to download their apps.  What I have seen is that if someone doesn't like or use something they decide it must be blocked.  It is just a load of crap!  Find a real reason to block something rather than ignorance...
