What Are You Saying?

Another beautiful weekend which meant not much viewing of television.  I did catch something that aired several times during what I caught of the race my son was watching.  And I just can't figure out why they feel that NASCAR fans really need so much focus on this type of prescription medication.

A few year ago when my son first started watching NASCAR, Viagra was all over the place.  They even sponsored a car to go with all of their commercials.  Flash forward to the present and you see commercials for Androgel.  This wasn't just once during the race (a 5 hour event when you include the pre- and post-race coverage).  I didn't watch nearly all of the coverage but I did see nearly 2 hours total.  In that limited time I saw this commercial for the more concentrated Androgel at least 5 times.  What exactly are the erectile dysfunction drug manufacturers trying to say about NASCAR fans?  I can't imagine that there is a larger percentage of them that need this than any other sport.  I will give it to you that they can't sponsor a person the way Viagra sponsored a car, but if you just look at the commercials they could match it.  Yet they don't, I wonder why?

I think what tops this rant off is what the commercial states regarding the side effects.  It states that women shouldn't touch the application area as it could cause certain birth defects.  And children shouldn't touch it because it can cause early puberty.  But then later it states that women who are pregnant or (my favorite line regarding warnings) women who could become pregnant shouldn't use the product.  Wow, talk about covering all of their rear-ends!  This particular drug is for people with low testosterone levels, why would a woman, whether pregnant or could become pregnant, use it?  Unless they are preparing for a sex change operation I can't think of why any women would want higher levels of testosterone!

I think these manufacturers are trying to cover too much and make sure that you can't sue them at all when their drug causes a side effect that could be life altering or ending.  What did they do in the past?  Why not deal with it that way?  Oh, that's right, no one gets rich that way.  My bad!
