Just a little bonus rant tonight. This one is really goes along with all of the other greedy things that are going on in all of the technology industry. This happens to be about the changes that Twitter is about to put into place.
I read something this morning regarding some changes that Twitter is going to put in place (the article). The basics are that they are going to follow Facebook's changes that prevent third parties from using the API's that they have claimed will be open for use forever. The reason they are closing them off, they want more money and feel that if they force you to use their app or web portal. But as the author points out, they could just change their API's to send out the advertisements. This idea would actually make it a much larger advertiser then the move they are going to be with this method.
I can see this being the beginning of the end to Twitter. I have read several articles from several different industry watchers that predicted the end of Twitter several months ago. One in particular has started only to use it to direct his followers to posts on Google+. And that is more because he knows there are a few that just haven't started using Google+ (incidentally, he uses Facebook for the same reason, coincidence?). So if you have people in technology media moving away, how long do you think it will last when everyday people start using other services.
The most annoying thing that is happening in the technology industry is the total greed that is driving everything other than real innovation. Perhaps Twitter should realize that more people would use their apps and web portal if they made it better.
