Olympic Commercials

It's no secret, the Olympic Games are in a few weeks in London.  And the news is starting to be dominated by things occurring in and around London.  It is almost to the point of being annoying.  But what I think is most annoying is the commercials that are already starting.

I used to enjoy watching some of the games.  I don't so much anymore because these athletes are really professionals.  They are no longer the amateurs they used to be.  Technically, they are amateurs but truthfully, they aren't.  And the fact that we use actual professionals (basketball) just makes it worse!  And it has also gotten to be much more of a commercial thing then it was in the past.  Everything is about outdoing the last event and spending huge sums of money in the process all in hopes that the city and country that hosts them will bring in even larger sums of money.

This brings us to the topic of tonight's rant.  There are some commercials running for Citi Bank credit cards.  The problem is that the commercials talk as if the games are over already.  They haven't even started!  What idiotic marketing firm came up with this campaign?  It might be a decent campaign if the games had at least started.  It isn't like someone can be confused about them starting.  Shortly before this particular add the newscast spoke about how London and the British army is getting ready with beefed up security.  That story was literally less than a minute before the commercial was aired!

Come on, treat the American public like they are intelligent.
