Job Creation

A lot of rain tonight allowed me to catch the news.  What a huge drop in the major stock market indices that has finished eliminating the gains that had occurred thus far this year.  There are two factors that caused this, one that we (the United States) can and should do something about and one that we can't but probably will do something about.

Let me start out with the second one in the list.  It is a factor that will probably bring the entire world into a recession, that would be the financial troubles in Europe.  I said we can't really do anything about it because beyond pumping cash directly into the European economy, we have little influence.  I said that we probably will do something because we continue to think that we are the world's big brother.  We seem to think that we need to stick our nose in without solving our own problems first.

The other factor  is something that we can actually do something about, the employment situation in our country.  The current administration continually points to the growth in jobs as proof that the economy is turning around.  Yet every time that a report comes out showing that jobs aren't growing or that some of their claims are false they state that they inherited the problems from the previous administration.  If we had grown as many jobs as this administration claims the unemployment rate in the United States would be at an all time low.  For example, this month they claim that the economy grew by something like 70,000 jobs yet unemployment claims went up by .1%.  That's right, we gained jobs yet more people filed for unemployment benefits!  How can that happen?  I can (and you know I will) tell you my theory, they aren't telling you how many jobs were lost.  They are playing with numbers so that you only see what they really want you to see.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not going to claim that this is something unique to this administration.  This is a typical political game to give you the impression that they are doing some real good for the country.  The reality is that their real agenda is to just further their career.  They will do something that benefits the country but probably not as much as they want you to believe.
