What's an Evacuation For?

I'm watching the news and can't wait to talk about this one!  I really can't believe that just how stupid these people are!  I had something that I was going to complain about but this just took over as it is really dumb.

This just really gets under my skin!  There were many mandatory evacuation orders given in the projected path of hurricane Irene.  Yet tonight the news is running a story that is all about people having to be rescued from their roof tops in pre-dawn conditions!  Don't these people realize that they are putting not only their own life in danger but the life of those that are forced to attempt to rescue them?  One of the idiots that was being interviewed once she was brought to safety said she had lived there for 53 years and it had never happened before, and followed it with this is ridiculous.  Yep, we in the rest of the country planned to have a hurricane move slowly across the sub-sea level city of New Orleans and dump more then two feet of water in the process after the storm surge!  This has to be probably the stupidest statement that I have heard in recent memory.  What was she thinking?  It's not like hurricanes were something new 53 years ago.

There is a reason the government issued the evacuation order.  Though this storm barely made a category one status, it is still something to be feared.  Take a look at what has happened with it.  There is the typical storm surge ahead of it raising the water level by several feet and the rain associated with a  hurricane.  But what makes this even worse is just how slow it is moving.  It has dropped more then two feet of rain and still hasn't even cleared the city yet.

People like this are just stupid!  They put additional lives in danger and cost us a lot of additional cash.  The other thing that bothers me is how these people act like they didn't know about hurricanes when they moved there.  It's just like the idiots that buy a house next to an airport then complain about all the noise.  But that's another rant...
