No One's There

Had a great evening out with my wife, dinner and a movie at the cheap theater ($1.75 per person) and saw Men in Black 3.  Very good movie!  And that caused me to miss all television viewing tonight.  With such a wonderful night (without the kids for a change) you might think I would have nothing to complain about.  Of course you would be wrong on that one.  I had a couple of examples of stupid people sightings on the way home.

With all of the dry weather that we have had here in CNY, there is a ban on outdoor fires.  Our weather isn't nearly as bad as what there has been in the elsewhere but we are in a moderate drought.  We've had some rain over the last few days but nothing close to bringing us up to being even with normal.  In fact most places you look the grass is still dormant and brown and leaves are falling off trees without even turning color.  Yet on the way home tonight I saw two bonfires with no one even watching them.  The first wasn't a small one either.  There is an old farm that they are trying to clear.  The pile up the stumps and burn them.  They did this a few weeks ago and the fire department went to put it out.  Once again tonight they have it burning.  It isn't nearly as large as last time but it is still roughly 10 to 15 feet in diameter.  More then enough to get out of control.  I would call it in but it is on a state route where several state troopers and county sheriffs pass on a regular basis.  I'm sure they have seen it by now.  The second looked more like people got tired of sitting next to it and went to bed.  Not a large fire by any means but left completely unattended.

I just don't get what these people are thinking.  The wildfires out in the mid-west weren't found to be caused by an unattended fire (that I know of) but there is a reason there is a ban on fires that aren't contained!  There have been a few fires around here but were caught and contained before they could go anywhere.  There aren't people watching these!  By the time someone notices that they are out of control it could be too late.  But I guess they don't care as long as they do what they want, nothing every happens to them.
