The Devastation is Amazing

Anyone ready up for a quick Friday bonus rant?  Well, ready or not, here it comes!  I've mentioned several times that I live in the Central New York region and this post has to do with what our wonderful governor has done.  Take note of the date in case you are reading this in a few days.

Anyone who lives in the United States has probably heard of the latest hurricane, Sandy.  And most will also know that as of the time of this post it is just north of Maimi, Florida, just a several hundred miles off shore.  It isn't a very strong, just a category one, and it isn't expected to get any stronger.  At this point the experts are expecting that it will make landfall and not turn out to sea.  Where are they expecting it?  Glad you asked, name a coastal point anywhere from the southernmost part of South Carolina to Rhode Island and you are probably within their best guess.  That's right, it is so far away and so that they really have no idea where it might land or even if it will!  But even though it is well over 1000 miles away, our brilliant governor has declared a state of emergency.  I get that we need to be prepared but this is a little ridiculous!  This isn't expected to make landfall for another couple of days, three if it actually comes up to New York.  The biggest reason that I feel this isn't necessary is that declaring a state of emergency causes a lot of additional spending that we just don't have!

And let's not forget to mention the meteorologists.  They have stated several time that the storm will go parallel to the coast then it will make a turn to the west and head toward the coast.  Wow, I wasn't aware that Mother Nature suddenly started taking orders!  But beyond stating that it will make a sudden turn to the west, they are also hyping up the impact of the storm.  They are talking about all of the flooding and power outages that are going to occur.  The last time that they predicted something this heavily nothing ever happened.  That's right, Mother Nature decided to let them know who controlled the weather and apparently they didn't learn their lesson.

One last point, who is the wise one who gave this the nickname Frankenstorm?  Holy crap what a lame name!  In all honesty, if you want to call it something like that after based on the devastation that happened go ahead.  At this point though, it is "just" a category one hurricane.  I put that in quotes because even a category one hurricane is something to be concerned with, just not what they are making it out to be.
