Are You Falling for It?

Tonight's post isn't from the news, it's from an article that I read this morning.  This is just another place where the truth is being hidden from the consumer.  The problem is that many consumers are going to fall for it.

One more time, I'm going to remind you that I'm a fan of the Android platform and that I also believe that the iPhone is a high quality product.  It just isn't one that I prefer.  This post isn't about saying that Android is better then iOS.  It is about yet another failure with the latest iteration and Apple's response to it.  This issue is the third that has proven that Apple isn't perfect like they have tried so hard to impress upon the world that they are.  In case you forgot what the first two were here's a reminder: maps and wifi.  This issue is all about the camera (the article).

So the issue this time is that apparently there is a purple halo in pictures under certain light conditions.  Now I will grant you that I don't know all the particulars and have only seen the single picture that was part of the article (and I've included here) but it is being widely reported.  I don't really have an issue if they identified the specific conditions in which to avoid so that you don't have the issue.  If you read the article you will know what my problem is.  The problem is similar to the problem that I had with the whole antenna issue regarding the iPhone 4 where Steve Jobs put the blame on consumers and the way they held the phone rather than the design of the phone.  Eventually he admitted that there was an issue and Apple handed out millions of free covers, but that didn't come until the talk of a lawsuit surfaced.  This time is a little different as they aren't blaming the consumer. They are now stating that it happens with all phone cameras (the statement is included in the article above).  Yep, even though this has never been an issue before on any phone (including previous iPhone models) they want you to believe that it happens on all phones.  Seriously, just how stupid do they think we are?  I have seen 1000's of pictures taken by many different mobile phones yet have never seen this no matter the light conditions!  This is just another line of crap being delivered by the Apple marketing - or should we call them damage control - department.

I'm not sure about anyone else but I'm about tired of Apple blaming everyone else for issues.  Admit that there are issues with the Maps app and that you released it way too soon.  Admit that there are serious wifi issues.  Those issues are software issues that can and should be solved quickly.  And finally (so far), admit that there is an issue with the camera and let users know the specific lighting conditions that produce the halo!  Unfortunately, the camera issue isn't a software issue, it's hardware.  So the only fix is going to be documenting the light conditions, however Apple has decided the best thing to do is make up stories about how it happens with all mobile phone cameras.  Many will believe this false story but most will not.  Will you believe it or not?
